When Fear Wants to Take Your Dream Away

Have you ever finally received something you’ve dreamed about — and then felt the fear rush in?

Maybe you land the job, meet the partner, or close on the home you’ve envisioned for years. And right alongside the joy comes a quiet whisper: What if I lose it? What if it’s too good? What if the other shoe drops?

I know that feeling well. As we moved forward with buying our new home, old thought patterns bubbled up: What if the financing falls through? What if it costs more than we can handle? What if it’s all taken away?

For a moment, those thoughts felt so real. But here’s what I’ve learned: those doubts aren’t the truth of who we are. They’re just old patterns, our brain trying to keep us “safe” by clinging to the familiar.

When those fears showed up for me, I didn’t shove them down. I noticed them. I poured love on the part of me that was afraid. And then I gave my mind a new direction with a simple affirmation:

✨ “It’s safe to have this much good.”

Every time the old pattern tried to take the wheel, I came back to that truth.

Even if I didn’t feel 100% convinced in the moment, I kept reminding myself: ease is the natural flow. Receiving with gratitude is safe. Joy is safe. Having a life I love is ok with me.

And here’s the beautiful part — the more I practiced that, the more natural it felt. The dream stopped feeling like a fluke or something that might slip away. It started feeling normal. Familiar. Right.

So if you’ve ever felt the fear of losing the very thing you longed for, you’re not alone. Fear doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path. It means you’re stretching beyond an old paradigm. And that discomfort? It’s a sign of growth.

Next time it rises up, try this: pause, take a breath, and tell yourself…

  • “It’s safe to receive this good.”

  • “This ease is my new normal.”

  • “I can trust the flow of life.”

Because life isn’t meant to tease you with glimpses of joy and then snatch them away. Life is meant to delight you. To partner with you. To keep expanding what’s possible for you.

So let yourself have it. Let yourself enjoy it. And when fear knocks, answer with love.
