From Doubt to Power

Have you ever waffled on whether or not you have what it takes to do, to have, or to become something you’ve wanted?

Wondering, “Am I capable enough, ready enough, or even worthy enough to have the level of success, the quality of health, or deepfelt connection I’m longing for?”

I have (more times than I want to divulge) secretly doubted myself while inadvertently comparing myself to everyone else who usually seemed more confident than I was.

Thankfully those days of continual self-doubt have become harder and harder to remember. With some expert guidance I’ve been fortunate enough to gain some tools for presencing a sense of grounded confidence.

In fact, recently I was in a conversation with my mentor, and she guided me through a process of decision-making, requiring from me a willingness to be specific and concrete with a date by which I would accomplish something I had been working on for a while.

Not hoping for it. Not preparing for it. Not intending it. Deciding it. And something shifted in that moment that I have not been able to stop thinking about.

What I realized is that the obstacle was never a question of my capability. And it was never a question of my worth, either.

What  stood in the way was something much simpler and much more powerful than either of those things. It was the absence of a decision.

What we get wrong about doubt

When we feel uncertain about whether we can create something we want, our minds tend to tell us one of three stories:

  • We have never done it before, so we have no evidence we can.
  • We have tried and failed, so we assume the outcome will be the same.
  • We have had what we want and then lost it, so we wonder whether we can really sustain it this time.

These stories feel like facts. They are not.

They are what happens when our energy is scattered, when we are looking in every direction all at once, weighing every possibility, rehearsing every fear.

And in that state, nothing moves. Not because we lack ability or worth, but because we have not yet decided.

And by the way, nothing is wrong with you if you’ve ever felt or thought any of these things. It might feel uncomfortable, but it’s also a great place to be. A growth potential moment if harnessed and used!

Have you ever heard the phrase, “buy low”? When the stock market dips, stocks tend to be cheaper and have way more potential for multiplying and accelerating a profit.

I’m going to give you a growth accelerator-multiplier tool that works just like that.

Decision is not what you think it is

Most of us think we understand decision. We think it means making a choice. But there is something deeper happening when we truly decide for something.

Decision is how we direct our energy. It is the act of tuning our focus to one point and, in doing so, calling all of our scattered, wandering energy into alignment behind one clear direction.

Decision gathers our energy and focuses it on a definite, specific purpose.

Decision is so powerful that it gives coherent marching orders to our creative energy, calling it back from any distractions, past fears and future imaginings, right into the present moment.

It is not force. It is not willpower. It is coherence.

Think about light. Incandescent light has real value. Turn it on and it fills a room, waves going in every direction. But a laser is that same light… decided.

Focused to a single point. And in that focus, it becomes something with the power to cut through almost anything. That is what decision does to your creative energy. Decision shapes our mind into a laser of productivity and assures our achievement.

The moment you decide, you stop waiting for permission from outside yourself. You stop waiting for conditions to be right.

Instead, you determine your own inner conditions to be favorable. You take the reins of your energy and tell it where you are going.

And something else happens, too. Decision closes the energy leaks.

It shuts the door on distraction and quiets the voice of doubt, not by arguing with it, but by entraining it into serving your defined specific purpose.

There is no other option. Not in a forceful way, but in the way that happens when something is simply already settled.

The part you actually have control over

We live in a world that pulls our attention in more directions than we knew existed. The past, the future, what is happening around us, what is happening on our screens.

The image that comes to mind is overstretched bubble gum. Chew it, stretch it and after a while it loses it’s sweetness and becomes bitter, and makes your jaw hurt. If you grew up in the 70’s, can I have an “Amen”?

Bubble gum, like distraction, gets old, and it is easy to feel like we have very little control over any of it. But you have more power than you know.

You can’t control exactly how your vision comes to be. But you are the only one who can decide for it. YOU can harness your energy and direct it toward what you would love to feel and have and achieve.

So, materializing the result you want is not a question of ability. It is not a question of worth. It is a question of decision.

When you have truly decided — a no turning back real decision — something consolidates within you.

It feels less like a goal or a wish and more like a knowing. Like it has already happened, and you are simply moving toward what is already true.

That is what a real decision feels like.

The invitation

If you have been waiting until you feel ready, until you have more evidence, until the conditions are right, consider that what you are waiting for may already be available to you.

Not through more preparation. Not through more proof. Through a decision.

Decide for what you would love. Bring your energy into focus. Act from that knowing, and watch what coherence can do.
