When Less Is More: Un-block the Flow of Love in Your Life

There’s a lot of advice out there on how to have more love in your life. Much of it is creative, solid and practical. But the most powerful and effective way I’ve found is not to add new habits or follow all the experts’ advice.

Opening our heart begins by removing what’s been in the way of feeling the love we want. This implies that love is already here, already available to us.

For years I believed my “love tank” was meant to be filled by my partner, friends or spouse. What I discovered is that the experience of love is sourced and felt within the individual first, and then shared with or felt from another.

A universal principle at the foundation of our existence is this:

There’s only one thing going on right now, and that’s unconditional love.

Maybe you don’t agree. Maybe you have evidence to the contrary. I’m not trying to convince you otherwise. But before you shut this idea down, keep your mind open just a little. There may be something here for you.

This is what opened the floodgate to more passion and deeper connection with my husband of 30+ years.

I realized I had been withholding love from him in the form of resentment. Very subtle things: irritations that move into frustration, and if shoved down, build an invisible wall that solidifies over time into resentment. I hadn’t even noticed I’d been doing it.

But here’s the kicker: I’d been blocking the flow of love not just toward him, but in me, for me, too.

Resentment isn’t precise like a laser. You can’t direct it at just one person. It eats away most at the person carrying it. Rehearsing and feeding resentment leaks toxicity in all directions, creating an environment unwelcome to love, usually without our conscious knowledge.

When I became tired of being “right,” I saw the futility in continuing to hold a grudge. My mentor, Kirsten Welles, taught me a framework that shifted the energy within me and changed how the people in my life responded to me. I’m passing it on to you.

How to Un-block the Flow of Love in Your Life:

  1. Identify what your Soul wants most for you to create, express or bring to fruition this year. It doesn’t have to be in the area of relationship.
  2. Get quiet and ask your inner, wise Self: “Is there anything in the way?” and “Is there anything to forgive?”

You may not receive an answer for a few days. Stay in the inquiry. The answers will come as images, feelings, or in conversations with others.

Whatever comes is evidence of an expanding awareness, and it is this awareness that will begin to melt resentment and open the flow of love in you.

There is no wrong way to do this. Trust yourself and the desire in your heart.
