In the pursuit of personal and professional growth, we can so easily find ourselves caught in the trap of perfectionism and rigid goal-setting. We set high expectations, craft detailed plans, and dive in, believing that success requires a singular, unwavering focus on our objectives.
But what if there’s another way? What if the key to achieving our dreams isnβt about sticking to a set path at all costs, but about learning to follow what feels expansive and inspiring?
One of the most freeing realizations you can have is that sometimes, the best way to move forward is not by pushing yourself to meet every goal or follow every schedule, but by being open to what truly excites you and makes you feel alive.
This is about trusting the pull of expansion rather than succumbing to rigid plans. Itβs about asking yourself: “Am I veering off my goal because I’m scared, distracted, or self-sabotaging? Or is this a sign that Iβm being called to pivot to a more expansive direction?”
I recently encountered this lesson in my own life, which helped me understand the power of expansion. Despite being deeply committed to my business and having a wonderfully capable team in place, I found myself feeling a sense of dread when I looked at my calendar.
My schedule was packed to the brim, yet it didnβt fill me with the passion and excitement I had hoped it would. I had set these goals for myselfβbig, ambitious goals for my businessβbut the reality was, I wasnβt feeling inspired by them at all.
Initially, I felt guilty. I thought, “How can I possibly ignore these goals? Iβve worked so hard to build my business. If Iβm not constantly pushing forward, does that mean Iβm failing?”
It was easy to get stuck in the belief that I was supposed to prioritize my business above everything else, but the truth was, when I looked inward, what I really wanted to do was something completely different.
I felt a deep pull to focus on finding my dream homeβa family sanctuary that would truly bring me joy. This desire seemed almost frivolous in the face of my business goals, and I couldn’t help but judge myself for it.
But when I shared this feeling with my coach, she offered me a profound insight that shifted everything: “Where the expansion is, thatβs where you want to go.”
In that moment, I realized that my heart was calling me toward something that felt expansive. Focusing on my dream home wasnβt a distraction from my goals; it was actually the very thing that would fuel my growth.
When you give yourself permission to follow what feels expansive, you’re not abandoning your vision; you’re actually enhancing it.
By choosing to go toward the thing that excited meβmy dream homeβI found that everything in my business began to fall into place with more ease.
The clarity I had been struggling to find came quicker, my ideas flowed more freely, and my work began to feel more aligned. This shift was transformative because it helped me see that expansion isnβt just about moving toward success; itβs about embracing joy, creativity, and authenticity.
If youβre feeling stuck or overwhelmed by rigid goals, ask yourself: “Am I forcing myself down this path because itβs what I think I should do, or am I being called toward something that feels more expansive?”
The beauty of following expansion is that it often leads you to the right place faster than sheer willpower and discipline ever could.
So, next time you find yourself questioning your goals or feeling drained by your ambitions, trust in the expansion. Give yourself permission to explore what makes your heart come alive. Itβs not about abandoning your visionβitβs about honoring whatβs truly calling you forward.
